The Parachute Regiment

The Parachute Regiment, colloquially known as the Paras, is an airborne infantry regiment of the British Army. The 1st Battalion is permanently under the command of  the Director of Special Forces in the Special Forces Support Group (SFSG). The Parachute Regiment’s 2nd and 3rd Battalion forms the airborne infantry element of 16 Air Assault Brigade. It provides the capability to deploy an infantry force at short notice, in the most demanding circumstances. As such, it is trained and ready to form the spearhead for the Army’s rapid intervention capability.
